    Dear Franklin Families,

We hope that you are having a wonderful summer full of time with your family.  If you are new to Franklin this year, welcome to the Franklin Falcon Family!  If you have had students already at Franklin, we are excited to welcome you back for the upcoming school year!

The staff is working hard to prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 16th.  We look forward to another great year of reconnecting and learning! Ongoing updates and information about planning for the 2021-22 school year can be found on the Alameda Unified School District Webpage. If you are looking for information on how to register your child, please go to the Student Services Department webpage

Incoming kindergarten play dates are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 25th and Saturday, August 7th. These play dates are held at Franklin Park and are for all incoming kindergarteners. They are are hosted by existing Franklin parents who have incoming kindergarten siblings. They help our kindergarten families get to know one another in advance of school starting.

We can't wait to partner with you again this school year, and to see you again in person!

    COVID Information

For information on AUSD's COVID protocols, please see the Family Guide sent out by AUSD on August 8th and linked above. Please look for ParentSquare messages from Ms. Chirrick as news develops. AUSD Coronavirus Updates

Although the state of California is not currently mandating COVID-19 testing for public school districts, AUSD continues to provide free testing to AUSD students and staff - and strongly encourages that testing

We are especially urging staff and students to get tested before the 2021-22 school year begins on August 16. As such, we are opening two testing sites, seven days a week, until August 14.

    Those sites are:

    Alameda High School cafeteria

    2200 Central Avenue

    August 5-14, 9 am - 5 pm

    Appointment link  (walk-ins also welcome!)

    Longfellow Campus MPR

    500 Pacific Avenue

    August 6-14, 9 am - 5 pm

    Appointment link  (walk-ins also welcome!)

We ask that all of our families complete this Self Health Screening each day:

    Self Health Screening

The California Department of Public Health is no longer requiring families and students to fill out a health screener (e.g., Qualtrics) before school each day.  Instead, we ask that you check your child for symptoms indicative of COVID-19, including:

    • Fever (100.0 F or more) or chills

    • Cough

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

    • Severe headache

    • New loss of taste or smell

    • Sore throat

    • Vomiting

    • Diarrhea

    • Runny/Stuffy Nose

In addition, students should stay home if they:

    • Have had a positive test for COVID-19 in the last ten days or
    • Have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 off campus in the last 10 days
    Back to School Night

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom at Franklin School's Virtual Back to School Night on August 26th!

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will be from 6:00–7:00 PM

3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be from 7:00-8:00 PM.

We are sorry to say that current COVID guidelines do not allow an in person event yet at this point in the 2021-22 school year. Your child's teacher will send out a Zoom link and you will receive a welcome video with schoolwide information to watch prior to Back to School Night.

    Kindergarten Information

A big welcome to our incoming Kindergarten students and families!

Save the Date: Kindergarten Enrollment Night will be held on January 13, 2022

Families can click on the link below to access the AERIES Family Portal for report cards, test scores and more. This is where you will also find your annual data confirmation.

    Parking Information

Parents, if you drop off or pick up your child on San Antonio, please do not block the driveways of our neighbors. We’ve had multiple complaints over the years about parents blocking a driveway making it impossible for the residents to get in and out of their driveway. Remember: The best place to park is around the park! Thank you for your cooperation and help in making sure Franklin School is a good neighbor!

For safety reasons, please use the crosswalk to get back and forth from where you have parked. If you are picking up or dropping off your child, consider using our hug-and-go lane. Please refrain from double parking, and remember, the Paru gate is not a drop off area.

    CAASPP Testing for Grades 3,4 & 5

The CAASPP Testing will be conducted during the month of May. Please have your child well-rested, fed, and ready for optimum performance.  If you don’t receive more information on testing dates, please contact your child’s teacher.

Parents:  The California Education Code Section 60615 states that parents/guardians may annually submit a written request to the principal of their student’s school if they do not wish to have their student take any or all tests.  If a parent or guardian submits an exemption request after testing has begun, any test(s) completed before the request is submitted will be scored and the results reported to the parent or guardian and included in the pupil’s records.  AUSD teachers and schools support students to do well on the tests and help them learn test-taking skills that will enable them to be successful throughout their school career and beyond.  We encourage parents to contact their child’s teacher or principal with any concerns they may have about the test before they request that their student be excluded from taking the test(s).
