Supply List

Students will keep a math note-taking book and I have found that a spiral notebook with graph paper is very helpful. Graph paper notebooks are a little hard to find, so a regular ruled notebook will work just as well. A homework folder is also important.

Derek Douglas

I just want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to tell you how excited I am to have your children in my class.  My name is Mr. Douglas I believe that education is a community effort and will do my best to work in partnership with you, the other teachers, staff, counselors, administrators, and community groups to make this year a successful one.

Attendance is the biggest key to your child’s success in this class; it is very important that your student be here on time every day.  I know that things come up that we cannot control and am more than willing to give make-up work or provide work in advance if you know your child will be absent. Students will have daily assignments and can be expected to spend 20 to 30 minutes per night on homework. They will keep a weekly homework log of all assignments so that they (and you!) know what they are responsible for each night.

The most important activity your child can do after school is read. Reading improves critical thinking skills. A high reading level is one of the most accurate indicators of overall achievement in other classes, in college, and in life. Therefore the majority of homework will be reading, writing, and vocabulary building.
